Blogging 101 – Day 2

Day Two: Take Control of Your Title and Tagline

You set your blog’s address when you registered at WordPress.com, but your blog’s title — what readers see on your site when they visit — can be changed at any time. Today, let’s make sure you love yours.

Today’s assignment: edit your title and tagline.

Why?

  • The title is the first thing most readers will see.
  • Your title and tagline work with elements like your address and theme to give visitors context and help them decide to stick around.

Your title doesn’t need to be the same as your blog’s URL — just because your address is maryjanesmith922.wordpress.com doesn’t mean you need to call your blog maryjanesmith922. Your title should reflect you.

A title is typically only a few words, so consider adding a tagline — a phrase that appears under your title and helps flesh it out. Think “Burger King: Have It Your Way,” or The Daily Post: The Art and Craft of Blogging.” Look at the post you wrote yesterday. Why are you here? What will we find on your blog? Let us know in your tagline.

My new title and tagline:

writing is my life

Come and Share my Love of Writing with me!

About Tessa

My name is Tessa Dean and I am an author and blogger. My writing styles vary and I love writing using prompts. I am also writing my first book, a Memoir entitled "Government Property - A Memoir of a Military Wife".  This is being published on the blog rather than the traditional way. I am putting up chapters as I go along. I keep my blog filled with useful content, stories, and poems. Plenty to keep you busy. I have also been interviewed by blogs and had other posts published on many different blogs. I also wrote a series of articles on Bipolar Disorder for IBPF (International Bipolar Foundation). I am in my 60’s and disabled which allows me plenty of time to write to my heart’s content. I live in southern New Jersey and have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. My oldest grandchild is a Sargent in the United States Marine Corps.

It’s funny. My title, “Atypical60” will remain the same–its who I am. But I’ve gotten food for thought. I changed my mundane tagline to one more relatable to my title: “A typical Blog. A Typical Woman. A Typical Take on Life. With An Atypical Twist” Thanks for making me think!

I am taking a blogging course offered by WordPress and I changed my other one and now this one. This one was harder. Sounds like a great tagline.
