Our House – prompt from the Daily Post

Our House

What are the earliest memories of the place you lived in as a child? Describe your house. What did it look like? How did it smell? What did it sound like? Was it quiet like a library, or full of the noise of life? Tell us all about it, in as much detail as you can recall.

Throughout my life I have lived in many different houses starting as a child. I lived in 4 houses as a child. I will describe the first one.

We lived with my grandparents after my parents got married and I came 10 months later. They married so fast everyone expected a quick birth. Everyone was wrong.

The house was basically quiet except for me the wailing baby.

I remember we lived in the sun room on the side of the house. All 3 of us.

You came in the front door to the living room, went down the hall towards the back and on the left hand side was first my grandparents’ room and then the bathroom. Then into the dining room and the sun room was next to that. There was a door for the basement in the dining room as well and the back of the house had the kitchen. Out the door the yard was fenced and there was a garage.

I go past there often now and it is not the same as when I lived there. It has no garage anymore which was always there. They separated the house into 2 apartments. My aunt and her family lived upstairs while they were getting ready to go out on their own.
