In The Garden
By Teresa Smeigh June 2016
The Garden was misty and the dew was still on the flowers. Rhonda Sue knelt and with her eyes closed she looked up to heaven and prayed for her mom as she lay there dying in her dainty bedroom in the cottage. The room she so lovingly decorated and no longer noticed.
Rhonda Sue continued to pray. She prayed that her mother, who was good and kind to everyone, wouldn’t leave this world too soon.
She listened, hoping the Lord would give her a sign. A sign that her mother would at least see this year out.
Eventually she heard a weak and frightened voice calling her name. She held her breath and continued to listen.
She ran to the house to find her mother awake and searching for her. She hadn’t been this lucid for months.
Rhonda Sue hugged her mother with tears pouring down her face. She knew the good Lord had answered her prayers.
Her mother was weak, but she would live longer than the doctor had figured. Color was coming back into her cheeks and she asked for tea and toast.
Rhonda Sue silently thanked the Lord for sparing her mother.
