The kitchen smelled odd and the guests were starting to fidget. They admired the lovely table setting in the dining room. It was laid out with beautiful china and a lovely bowl of salad for the first course.

Rhonda was still preparing the rest of the meal in the kitchen and didn’t have time to mingle. People wondered where Ken, her husband, was. Surely, he was attending.

In the meantime, the smell was growing fouler and people were moving further away from the kitchen. Finally, Rhonda called them all to dinner. The guests moved slowly to the table and took their assigned seats.

Rhonda said grace, but no mention of Ken. Finally, one of the guests couldn’t stand it and asked where Ken was as there was no place setting for him and then what was that smell. They all started talking at once. Rhonda yelled for quiet.

Since no one was eating, Rhonda said she would bring out the main course. Everyone was quiet and wondering what Rhonda had cooked up for them. Finally, they were all sitting with their hands clasped in front of them and looking expectantly at Rhonda.

She got up and went into the kitchen, she told those that offered their help that she didn’t need it.

There were a few bangs along the way and then they heard Rhonda coming back to the dining room.

There were screams and some of the ladies fainted. Finally, everyone just looked in horror. The platter held the cooked head of Ken, her husband.

Hello and welcome all to the latest weekly writing challenge. There is a picture, a quotation and a 500 word limit. The Challenge is to take whatever is sparked by the picture and/or the quotation, however tenuous or remote the connection, and see how much fun you can have in 500 words (just between us we never count them as long as we’re enjoying things and you are too, but don’t tell anyone). The deadline is midnight next Tuesday (GMT) Here is the picture prompt. Please credit if you show it on your blog.
