Weekly Tanka Prompt Challenge – Week 13 – swell and foam (Tanka)

Weekly Tanka Prompt Challenge – Week 13 – swell and foam

Gentle Waves by Teresa Smeigh September 2016

The swell of water rolls,

Gently over my bare feet.

The foam disappears

back into the sea slowly,

As another gently rolls in.

Rules:

Simple Guidelines.

Take the two words and write a Tanka Poem.

Tanka consists of five units, usually with the following pattern of    5-7-5-7-7 which is syllables.

This is for the readers that haven’t tried writing a Tanka and don’t understand how to write one.

Line 1 – 5 syllables, Line 2 – 7 syllables, Line 3 – 5 syllables, Line 4 – 7 syllables, Line 5 – 7 syllables.

What is a syllable?

  1. a unit of pronunciation having one vowel sound, with or without surrounding consonants, forming the whole or a part of a word; for example, there are two syllables in water and three in inferno.
  2. You can use the picture above.

Copy and paste the link of your finished tanka in the owner’s comments.

About Tessa

My name is Tessa Dean and I am an author and blogger. My writing styles vary and I love writing using prompts. I am also writing my first book, a Memoir entitled "Government Property - A Memoir of a Military Wife".  This is being published on the blog rather than the traditional way. I am putting up chapters as I go along. I keep my blog filled with useful content, stories, and poems. Plenty to keep you busy. I have also been interviewed by blogs and had other posts published on many different blogs. I also wrote a series of articles on Bipolar Disorder for IBPF (International Bipolar Foundation). I am in my 60’s and disabled which allows me plenty of time to write to my heart’s content. I live in southern New Jersey and have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. My oldest grandchild is a Sargent in the United States Marine Corps.
